On Being a Dentist
Providing services to others is what drives me. Seeing the results of my efforts, and the change of attitude toward dentistry in my patients excites me. I chose the healthcare field to follow in the footsteps of other family members, who I saw making a difference in the communities they serve, and I wanted to provide a service that was greatly needed.
This profession has allowed me to develop great relationships with the people who come to me for care. While dentistry is an always-changing field, with new techniques and technology, it’s the rapport I have with my patients that keeps me most motivated. I look forward to each person’s visit as a time to hear the latest news about their life.
I am energized when I provide painless care to a patient with dental anxiety. Seeing individuals change from apprehensive to looking forward to their visits is rewarding. I am particularly honored to be caring for multiple generations within several families: the fact that they all come to me for their dental needs is truly humbling.
My Education and Continuing Education
- University of Illinois, Chicago Circle Campus
- Howard University College of Dentistry – Doctorate of Dental Surgery
Since oral healthcare is a constantly changing field, and because my patients rely on me to provide them with a wide range of quality dental services and treatments, I avidly pursue continuing education. By attending national, regional, and local meetings, conferences, and lectures, I learn about the newest technologies and different care techniques. I also participate in the United Study Group, which allows me to learn with and from my peers.

In the Community
Being active in the community is important, because there are so many ways to touch lives positively and be a supportive, encouraging role model to others. I’m on the board of directors for Milestone, Inc. for developmental disabilities, I serve on the Rockford Public School District 205 Superintendent’s Think Tank, and a member of Rockford Regional Health Council. I’m also part of the University of Illinois College of Medicine staff and advisory board.
Personal Life

I’m a Chicago native, but Rockford’s been my home for more than 30 years. My life is shared with Deborah, my wife, and three children: Angela, Alex, and Allison. When I’m not caring for my patients, being with loved ones and friends is important to me. I also enjoy staying active, whether that’s cross training, golfing, or skiing.
